The Process
These Log Chests are made from Australian Eucalyptus Logs. Each piece is chosen for its unique combination of contours, colours and textures. Being very conscious of the need to preserve fauna shelter, I take particular care to avoid disturbing potential habitat. I only untilize fallen logs that are otherwise destined for destruction.
I use a wooden mallet and chisel to carve out the hollow, allowing each piece of wood to show me how to shape it. End pieces of recycled hardwood is then added to balance the individual flow of the logs. I polish each chest with oils and waxes to bring out the full natural colours and beauty.
Inspiration for the Log Chests comes from my love of nature and many wonderful experiences exploring the Australian bush and observing the infinitely varying processes and patterns of the natural world.
It is a delight to see my logs continue their adventures by accompanying people from over 40 countries back to their homelands.
